KIRIGAMI
Hand Cut Paper Creations

As an annual tradition, Cynthia hosts a "Snowflake Party" at her home to launch the winter holidays and start the season of paper snowflake cutting. Each year Cynthia cuts about 150 one-of-a-kind snowflakes to be displayed at her home and around town. Since so many people have asked for them, she is now offering them for sale. Framed mandalas, hanging snowflakes and cards are available all the time at Cynthia's online Etsy shop.

ABOUT KIRIGAMI
While origami is the art of folding paper into creative shapes, kirigami is paper that is both folded and cut. Kirigami differs from European Schereschnitte or Chinese PaperCut, neither of which is folded. Kirigami is an ancient Japanese form now becoming more popular. Pop-up books and cards, as well as folded paper snowflakes and flowers have become familiar items.
Currently, Cynthia cuts three kinds of Kirigami objects:
* Snowflake Mandalas (framed or hanging) * Three Dimensional Hand Cut Cards
* Cards That Open Multiple Times, like a puzzle.

Kirigami works are wonderful keepsake gifts for weddings, birthdays, and other special occasions.

ABOUT HAND CUT KIRIGAMI CARDS
Cynthia also makes elegant three-dimensional kirigami cards, pop-up cards, cards that unfold several times, and other paper creations. Each of these whimsical cards is hand-folded, then cut with scissors, punches, and knives. Each is imagined as it is being cut, so the result is a completely unique, one of a kind creation. The material for mandalas is ultra brite, thin paper. For cards Cynthia uses colored, acid-free cardstock paper. When the card is opened, the design pops out in three dimensional form to surprise and delight. On the back of the card is the EmerlyeArts logo.

ABOUT SNOWFLAKE MANDALAS
Most people recognize kirigami as a way to make paper snowflakes. Cynthia makes snowflake mandalas as well as larger mandalas for framing.While real snowflakes are always six-sided, these are fantasy snowflakes, formed in a circle pattern with four, six, eight, or twelve sides. Each snowflake is imagined when it is cut, thus forming a completely unique creation. One snowflake takes the greater part of an hour to make. After cutting, ironing, and signing, the snowflake is laminated to protect it, then trimmed and fitted with a gold cord and tag for display purposes. For best results, hang the snowflake from a cord or attach to window with double-sided tape. Groupings of six or more look magical. To enjoy these snowflakes for many years to come, at season’s end, store flat in a cool, dry place.

* Snowflakes are not returnable.
* Retailers: While twelve snowflakes are nice for a home display, a store display works best with at least two dozen snowflakes. Optimal is three to four dozen snowflakes, which feels like a "flurry" overhead and is very beautiful.
* Cynthia cuts a finite number of snowflakes per year (about 150 ) and sells them on a first-come basis. Please consider this when ordering.
* You will need a PayPal account to buy online. Signing up with PayPal is quick, easy, and secure. If you would prefer to send a check, go to the INFO page and fill out the response form to order. Checks must clear before items are sent.
