The following is information on typical commission work Cynthia has taken in the past. Don't limit yourself to this, however. We are constantly suprised at the creative and interesting ideas people come up with. (Someone recently inquired about designing a large tattoo for them!) Feel free to contact Cynthia at EmerlyeArts@gmail.comto discuss your idea further.

STORY PORTRAITS Cynthia has always been fascinated with symbolism, mythic images, and dreamscapes. Her paintings, therefore, tend to be narrative in quality. Because of this, she has developed a unique type of product, which she calls a "story portrait."
Story Portraits combine symbolic motifs representing a person's life into a representational design. These are not traditional renderings of a person's likeness. Rather, they are meditations about the person, often in mandala-like form.
There is an element of privacy to this work -- while all can appreciate the beautiful design, only those who know what the elements represent can interpret the subject's meaning. They make great conversation pieces!
To make a story portrait, much of the work is in the design phase. First is the gathering of images which relate to the subject person. The artist will need to meet with the client at least once to discuss issues about the person's life. In this, she is attempting to discover the essence of my subject, which will be portrayed in symbolic form.
It is important to note that the artist requires free reign in this process. Symbolic illustration is a very intuitive and organic process and cannot be directed through the reasoning mind. The best story portraits form themselves, like dreams, and reveal layers of meaning unintended.
A Story portrait, like a logo, typically takes at least 40 hours of work. Past Story Portraits have sold for between $1000 and $2500, depending on size and medium.
LOGO DESIGNS
Cynthia's detailed, elegant style renders her logo designs striking and beautiful. Her specialty is ornate black and white logo designs. While she is able to render colorized logos, her black and whites are her signature.
Logo creation is much more labor-intensive than one might suppose. Much of the time is spent in planning and design work, rendering multiple sketches for the client to choose from. Once the final design is approved, each design elements is rendered by hand one at a time, digitally scanned and then assembled on the computer. Typically, a logo design takes 40 to 50 hours to complete.
Our standard logo fee is $1500. Several payment arrangements are possible.
ILLUSTRATION Cynthia's opulent style lends itself well to many types of illustration, such as book covers, posters, custom greeting cards, bookmarks, etc. Please inquire to discuss your project.
CONSIDERATIONS:
SCHEDULING: Everything works better for those who plan in advance. Please leave several weeks for your project to be completed. If no other work is in process, a commission generally can be rendered in a month's time. Cynthia will discuss timing when scheduling your work.
PAYMENTS: One third non-refundable deposit is required in order to begin work. Typically, one third is then due upon approval of sketches. The final third is due when the finished work is presented. For those on a budget, Cynthia is willing to accept weekly or monthly payments to cover everything but the deposit. Even so, the final product will be delivered only when the last payment is made.
CONTRACT: All commission work requires the signing of a simple contract explaining the scope of the project, the timing, the terms of payment, copyright considerations, etc. This contract will accompany the client's deposit and signals the beginning of work on your project.
