Currently, I create one collection per year for the winter season. This consists of approximately 20 garments, each one completely unique.
If you are interested in commissioning a jacket, here are my guidelines:
- Design: The
method I use is very organic; in other words, the design pretty much
makes itself, like a painting, so I am unable to recreate anything I've
done in the past exactly, nor do I make any specific pictures or
motifs. What comes out, comes out. If you indicate one of the tops on
my website, that gives me some idea of what you like as a guide.
- I resist creating any designs which are very fitted, as this does
not work well with either the fabric or the decorating style. My most
successful jackets are loose, swing-style or simple cardigan-style.
-
Uniqueness: All my garments are one-of-a-kind. I would be delighted to have free reign to create something very unique for you. All my work is from patterns I have myself created.
- Color:
Since I buy in bulk, I am a bit low on base colors at the end of the
season. I do best when the client gives me a color scheme to work with,
such as earth colors, black & white, neutrals, blues and greens,
etc. I also like to know whether the client likes high contrast or
muted colors. If we get this far, I can tell you exactly what colors I
have available for the base color.
- Size: This is my most thorny issue. The fabric stretches when
worked with, so I am unable to create anything too fitted. If you give
me a size and body dimensions, plus the general body shape (such as
stick, apple, pear, busty, etc.) that helps. Again, many of my flowing
styles look good on anyone.
- Price: Demand for my one-of-a-kind work has driven my prices up in
the past two years. Currently I am asking for a $200 non-refundable
deposit for materials and to begin work. Vests are $650, Cropped, at-
hip cardigan-jackets are $800, longer, wrist-length jackets are $900.
For a matching hat and jacket set, add $150 to the jacket price. If the
garment is unacceptable, it may be returned within 10 days if unworn
and unwashed.
- Timing: At present, I spend about four months creating a collection for the year. Generally, this means, I am creating from September through January. After that, all is put away until next season and I focus on painting and illustration. Please keep this in mind. If you request an item in July, your order will not be addressed until fall (unless, of course, you make me an offer I can't refuse.)
- Process: Please contact me via email at: Cynthia@Emerlye.com or on the contact page of this website to inquire about a commission. I will ask for your preferences and information and let you know what is possible. After receiving your deposit, the work on your garment will be put on my cue. If there is no big project ahead of you, it will take about two weeks to complete.
